Unlike the previous three hackathons, this year’s event stood out for its diversity, scale, and impact. The week-long event featured intensive coding sessions, mentorship from industry experts, and opportunities for participants to network with professionals in the technology sector.

Facilitators conducted workshops focused on teamwork, innovation, and leadership, equipping students with both technical and soft skills essential for the 21st-century workforce. Participants showcased self-designed projects addressing real-world challenges ranging from water management to cybersecurity, demonstrating their creativity and problem-solving capacity.

After a rigorous evaluation process based on innovation, practicality, and societal impact, the judges announced the top three winning teams:

1st Place – Smarten:
A smart water management system integrating leak detection sensors, automated valve controls, and real-time dashboards for both users and utility companies.

2nd Place – ROFAND:
A digital recovery platform designed to help people report and recover lost items and documents through secure communication portals.

3rd Place – FortiCore:
An automated penetration testing tool that helps organizations identify and report network and web application vulnerabilities efficiently.

The 4th RCA Hackathon showcased Rwanda Coding Academy’s unwavering commitment to nurturing young innovators equipped with the skills and mindset needed to drive Rwanda’s digital transformation. Beyond the competition, students benefited from hands-on mentorship, real-world exposure, and industry-standard project development experience — all aligning with RCA’s mission to be a center of excellence in coding and digital innovation.

The Rwanda TVET Board (RTB) commended the efforts of all participants, emphasizing the importance of such platforms in strengthening Rwanda’s innovation ecosystem. On social media, hashtags trended as the tech community celebrated the creativity and dedication of young innovators.

As RCA continues to champion innovation-driven education, the success of the 4th Hackathon sets the stage for even greater milestones in the years to come. The skills, teamwork, and connections forged during this event will undoubtedly shape the future of Rwanda’s tech landscape.
