A Team from the U.S. Embassy in Rwanda Visits RCA

Rwanda Coding Academy (RCA) had the privilege of welcoming a delegation from the U.S. Embassy in Kigali. The visiting team, composed of Dr. Karlene Noel, Jean de Dieu, and Maureen, represented the EducationUSA program, which connects Rwandan students with opportunities to pursue higher education in the United States. Their visit was a significant moment for RCA students, as it opened doors to new educational and cultural exchanges beyond Rwanda’s borders.

The EducationUSA team shared valuable insights on how students can access higher learning opportunities in the U.S., highlighting a wide range of universities, scholarships, and academic programs. They emphasized the importance of proper guidance, research, and preparation when seeking to study abroad. In particular, the team introduced students to free online resources designed to help them navigate the complex journey of applying to U.S. institutions, from researching schools to preparing for standardized tests and completing application requirements.

During the session, students engaged actively with the visiting team, asking thoughtful questions about scholarships, application timelines, and eligibility criteria. The team responded with practical advice, encouraging students to remain ambitious and committed while reminding them of the importance of academic excellence, leadership, and community engagement—qualities that U.S. universities often value highly in international applicants.

The visit was made even more special by the presence of RCA alumnus, ISHIMWE Gervais, a member of the academy’s first cohort and now a student at Columbia University in New York City. Gervais shared his personal journey of transitioning from RCA to studying in one of the world’s most prestigious universities. His testimony was both inspiring and reassuring, as he walked current RCA students through the challenges he faced and the strategies he used to succeed. His words resonated deeply, serving as living proof that RCA students have the potential to compete and thrive internationally.

He emphasized the importance of perseverance, curiosity, and seeking mentorship throughout the application process. Gervais also highlighted how RCA had equipped him with a strong foundation in coding, problem-solving, and discipline, which prepared him well for the demands of U.S. higher education. His story sparked excitement and hope among students, who could clearly see themselves following a similar path in the near future.

The visit concluded with a renewed sense of ambition and determination among RCA students. They left the session not only informed but also inspired to pursue their dreams on a global stage. The engagement with the U.S. Embassy team, coupled with the motivational testimony from one of their own, reminded them that the possibilities ahead are limitless with the right preparation and dedication.

This partnership between RCA and EducationUSA underscores the academy’s commitment to connecting its students with world-class opportunities. As RCA continues to nurture the next generation of technology leaders, such visits strengthen its mission of producing globally competitive innovators who will contribute to Rwanda’s development and beyond.
